DIS Junior Academic Olympiad Team Finishes in Top Ten - Despite Being Youngest Competitors

Posted Date: 3/12/25 (7:17 PM)

A group of students and their teacher pose for a photo after a successful competition. The text reads 'DIS Team Finishes in Top 10 at Junior Academic Olympiad' and 'DIS 6th Graders Finish 8th/40 Competing Against 7th & 8th Grade Teams'.
Dorris Intermediate School principal Kevin Stirnaman shared the following news:
"Mr. Comrie took a group of 6th graders to compete in the ROE [Regional Office of Education] Junior Academic Olympiad at SIUE.

Students in teams of four compete in various team academic challenges and their combined score in all of the challenges determines where they finish. The event is for students 6th - 8th grade, so our students are the youngest ones there.

For the first time since we’ve been sending groups to the competition, we had a team finish in the top 10. Our DIS team, Penelope A,  Audrielle C. and Allyona U, finished 8th out of 40 teams and even finished 1st in one of the individual challenges!  We are proud of them and all of the DIS students that competed today.

It’s great to be a T-Bird!!"
