Dorris Intermediate School teacher Ms. Holli Lorsbach was chosen to receive a 2024 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award.
The Excellence in Teaching Awards program, sponsored by Emerson, annually recognizes educators in the St. Louis metropolitan area for dedication to their students and school community.
Dorris Intermediate School principal Kevin Stirnaman said:
"I can think of no one who deserves the award more than Ms. Lorsbach.
Holli is a long time staff member at DIS, starting with us as an education assistant while she was getting her teaching endorsement. After achieving that, we moved her into a 5th grade classroom where she has done great things since day one.
Holli strikes that perfect balance of student centered caring and having high expectations. Her classes consistently show high growth every year and her communication with parents is top of the mark.
Holli recently went back and gained her endorsement towards working with English Language Learners and does a fantastic job with that student population for Language Arts and Social Studies instruction.
Holli also is a founding member of our after school DIS Art Program and is a central figure in our 4th grade orientation night, getting our new families to feel comfortable at DIS.
She's also is the founder of the Kahoks As Mentors program, which pairs DIS students with CHS student athletes to show our kids what it takes to be a successful Kahok.
DIS is fortunate to call Ms. Lorsbach a T-Bird and I congratulate her on this honor."
The 2024 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Awards will be presented on November 20, 2024. The honorees receive an engraved crystal apple and a certificate of recognition. Their names will be listed in a full-page commemorative advertisement in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
